Throughout April and early May the Moorpark College Foundation will host events for students, faculty and community members with proceeds contributing to the school by providing money for scholarships and funding for extra-curricular programs.
Foundation Director David Mirisch puts together all the events for the Foundation and has over 10 different events prepared for the this year as well as plans for 2017. These include various performances, competitions and community gatherings.
The next highly anticipated event is “Motion Flux,” a dance program what will be hosted in the Performing Arts Center April 23. On May 6 there will be a performance of “Americana.” VIP ticket will be available for both shows.
“Americana” is a musical performance that will display the talent of students in the Moorpark music program. The VIP event will be held on opening night.
The VIP tickets cost $30 each or $50 for a set of two and are available to anyone who would like to see the performance with reserved seats and have the opportunity to attend the pre-show event.
The pre-show event will have food and beverages catered to the VIP guests while having a chance to relax and interact with prominent members of the community, including Moorpark College President Luis Sanchez.
The VIP pre-show events will take place in the Administration building and begins at 6:30 p.m. on the opening night of the performances.
The “Hairspray” VIP event was a success, according to Mirisch, and he encourages people who enjoyed it to attend the future events as well.
Adam Simon, an 18-year-old Computer Science major, enjoyed the performance.
“I don’t normally like plays, but it was really good,” said Simon. “I had a good time, definitely.”
“People who attended the VIP party all had a great time,” said Mirisch. “Everyone felt the 10 Hollywood celebrities were a big hit. Everything came off as planned. Hollywood celebrities will be in attendance at both events [‘Motion Flux’ and ‘Americana’].”
In addition to local community figures, Mirisch invites well-known actors and other members of the Hollywood community to engage in these VIP events. He feels it helps attract more attendees while also making the environment much more enjoyable.
Some additional events to look forward to include a golf tournament that will be held at the Moorpark Country Club this summer, as well as a celebrity softball game and the second annual Bowling for Scholarships event in the fall. Information regarding these events will be distributed as details are confirmed.
Mirisch believes that with his resources and experience, the Moorpark College Foundation will have more students and members of the community participating in events than ever before. He expects a strong year for the foundation.
