Many eager students filled up room nine in the Music Building on Multicultural Day, April 12, to hear about the religion and culture in northern India.
Dr. Kuldeep Singh, a native of Punjab, India, led the presentation as he discussed the unique lifestyle in north India.
He made it known to the students that the religion in northern India, Sikhism, was a religion that was very high in spirits.
Qualities that are imperative in Northern Indian culture such as kindness and forgiveness were emphasized throughout the entire session by Singh.
“Man’s real ornament is his characters and virtues,” said Singh. “Truthfulness is the highest value.”
Singh went into great detail as he described the main aspects of the religion and culture that is practice. Not only did he have many different stories and examples to tell, but he also sang a few lines of various Sikh songs as a way to interact with the students that were present.
Many students were intrigued by his presentation as the session came to end. He even got some students fascinated on visiting India.
“I was not very familiar with the culture in Northern India,” said sophomore Sai Akunuru. “I am now a bit more excited to visit Northern India especially the Golden Temple.”

to discuss more with Dr. Kulpreet Singh.
