A free showing of the blockbuster movie “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” next week is meant to give students a chance to relax from their end of semester stress.

“This is kind of like a last minute reprieve,” said Grace Meyer, 19, liberal arts major, and historian of the Honors Club. “A fun relaxation night before, you know, everything goes to hell.”

The Honors club is hosting the event and providing pizza, refreshments and candy at Moorpark College next Friday, April 29, at 5 p.m., in the Exotic Animal and Training Management auditorium, EATM room 208. The auditorium, which has a projector, is located in the building directly to the left of the Moorpark Zoo’s entrance gate. No reservations are required and anyone can come, relax and socialize according to Frank Ralph, 19, president of the Honors Club and Student Voice’s managing editor.

“Maybe [students will] meet new people before finals, like ‘oh hey, you’re actually in my class and you’re cool, let’s study,’”said Meyer.

The Honors Club meets regularly to plan ways to serve the school and the community. Earlier this semester the club picked up trash at Leo Carrillo Beach in Malibu.

The group also showed support to the Performing Arts Department and went as a group to see the student production of the musical “Hairspray.” Meyer says that the club plans to provide coffee for students in the library during finals week.

The Honors Club runs alongside the Honors academic program but is open for any Moorpark College student to join.
