Moorpark came to play against conference rival Oxnard
April 22, 2016
Coming off a nail biting 5-4 loss two days ago to the Condors, the Raiders made up for it and then some on Thursday, with an 11-4 victory.
The victory puts the Raiders at 16-18 on the season with two games remaining till the end of the regular season. They are still going to have to wait to see if they make the postseason.
Head Coach Mario Porto was excited about the victory, but wished that the season had been better than an up and down roller-coaster thus far, preaching consistency as the key.
“They did a good job. We were down and they were able to come back,” said Porto. “We just want to stay consistent with our swings and take our ground balls, just to stay where we’re at now.”
Freshman left-fielder Austin Fields admitted that the team stumbled a bit in their loss on Tuesday to Oxnard, but today’s win helped out.
“We kinda got off track a little when we went to Oxnard on Tuesday,” said Fields. “Obviously as you saw today, we got back on track.”
The Raiders had bases loaded for the majority of the bottom of the eighth inning. With a few singles, and walks from the Oxnard pitcher, it quickly went from an 8-4 game to an 11-4 game.
Porto still remains hopeful for the team to make it to the playoffs, and stated that they will keep their game the same.
“Hopefully we can do the same thing we did today,” said Porto on the game play today. “We hope to win out…there’s still a slim chance if Ventura loses…as long as we have that much of a chance we’re still gonna get out there and get after it.”
Moorpark will play at Allan Hancock College on Saturday, and return home to play against Santa Barbara City College Tuesday, April 26 at 2:30 p.m.
