Bulldogs and Raiders strike a deal to lower tuition

National University and Moorpark College have partnered up to offer a deal for transferring students and faculty at Moorpark.
Through this partnership, NU has developed a Moorpark College Academic Scholarship Program giving all transfer students and employees of Moorpark a 15 percent tuition scholarship per course for undergraduate, graduate and certificate programs taken at NU. The scholarship also applies to online courses.
“I am happy about it,” Moorpark College President Luis Sanchez said. “National University is one of several non-profit universities in our area where our students and employees can further their educational journeys.”
The partnership also builds a bridge from Moorpark to NU that gives students and staff the ability to further their education in a timely and cost-effective manner, according to Albert de la Rocha, director of operations at NU.
“Looking at this from a yearly prospective that is a scholarship that equals $2,868 per year,” said de la Rocha. “If a student has a two year program to finish their bachelor’s, that’s a $5,736 scholarship just for transferring from MC to NU. The scholarship is applicable to master’s programs as well so staff that already hold a bachelor [degree] can move on to their master’s.”
These scholarships are also designed for students who want to further their education but might not have the proper income or the resources to do so.
“We partnered with each other to advocate for our students and to really encourage them to keep furthering themselves through education,” said de la Rocha.
According to the university’s official website, NU is the second-largest private, non-profit institution of higher education in California. NU’s campuses are located in regional areas including Oxnard, Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, Costa Mesa, Sacramento, Redding, San Jose, Stockton, Fresno, Bakersfield, Ontario, San Bernardino, Twentynine Palms, as well as Henderson, Nevada.
The new resources and opportunities that are available through this partnership are only the beginning of what’s to come throughout this process.
“We work in education to better lives and when you have the opportunity to partner with a great community college like Moorpark, nothing but great things can come of it,” said de la Rocha. “Dr. Sanchez is a great leader and we both know that with a partnership like this, we can make transferring more realistic for students.”
