The annual Moorpark College commencement graduation ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 19 in the campus quad.
“It’s just the most wonderful day of the academic year,” said Sharon Miller, director of student activities. “We work all year to help this event happen and help students accomplish this goal of reaching graduation.”
Miller expects the number of students who will participate in the graduation ceremony to be about 340, which is the same as last year, but said the number may change because the signup process continues until May 19.
The ceremony will start at 5:30 p.m. and campus parking will be free on that day, but guest seating is a first-come-first-serve basis.
According to the Moorpark College website, to participate in the ceremony, students need to purchase a cap and gown package from the Moorpark College Bookstore. The package costs less than $60 and contains a cap, gown, tassel and a diploma cover, which will be handed to students on stage during the ceremony. Students who have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher can ask for a gold tassel when ordering the graduation package.
Financial assistance is available for students in Extended Opportunity and Program Services.
The package is available in the bookstore from April 11 to May 19. The bookstore hours are: Mondays and Thursdays 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesdays and Wednesdays 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Fridays 8 a.m. to noon. The bookstore is closed on weekends.
An optional graduation rehearsal will be held on the same day of the ceremony at 10:30 a.m in the campus quad.
