Hundreds of students gathered in the quad to celebrate the success of those transferring to four-year schools this fall, on Thursday at the annual Transfer Social.

“[This] is a time to celebrate the success of students who are transferring,” said Danny Munshower, Moorpark College counselor and lead organizer of the event.

Everyone in the Career Transfer Center, including student workers, helped organize and run the event. Vilma Molmedo, 28, sociology major, and a student worker in the CTC passed out churros and hot dogs

Students flocked around the Networking Board, where they could sign up and join an email group with other students transferring to the same school. Students were also given the opportunity to hang paper stars inscribed with their names and future schools. They could also write thank you notes to supportive teachers and faculty to hang them on the Wall of Fame. Munshower said that the stars will be sorted and delivered to the teachers.

“That I think is a touching piece where faculty and staff will get to see this kind of full circle, them helping students and seeing them transfer on,” Munshower said. “[It’s] a chance for students to just say thank you to certain people that have helped them through this process.”

Next to the Transfer Social was a mini transfer fair. There were representatives from a handful of universities including Grand Canyon University, Cal State Channel Islands and UC Merced.

The Transfer Social is also meant to help prepare continuing students for fall applications, said Munshower.

Coriandra Wood, 20, French major, has been accepted as a fall transfer to UC Davis and Cal Lutheran. Wood applied to Cal Lutheran in high school, but was not accepted. She came to Moorpark College and reapplied with success.

“I enjoyed it, I loved every second of it,” Wood said.
