After dominating the regular season and winning a conference title, Moorpark College’s Lady Raiders were eliminated from post-season contention Sunday, May 8 with a 2-1 series defeat at the hands of College of the Canyons.
The Lady Raiders were able to come from behind and win game one with a 4-3 victory on Saturday. But they lost both games on Sunday 4-0 and 9-1 respectively.
“This offseason we’re gonna focus on lifting and getting a lot stronger,” said freshman pitcher Caitlyn Vinyard. “That’s the difference between regionals and state.”
Freshman in-fielder Jazmin Macias stated that there was not a whole lot the team could have done differently to get the series victory.
“I honestly think we played well,” said Macias. “We could have come out hitting a lot better the last two games and scored early like the first game.”
The Lady Raiders are poised to work hard over this offseason to not only win the conference next year, but make an even further run in the playoffs.
“We have the talent, but we need the strength,” said Vinyard. “We had an awesome season and it was a great way to start my freshman season. I’m sure my sophomore year will be all of this and better.”
As of now, there will be 18 returning players from this year’s roster looking to play and compete in the playoffs next year. If the Lady Raiders are able to win conference again next season and go far in the playoffs, they could be a deadly team no one will want to face in 2017!
