Moorpark College’s 1000 Scholarships program to be extended for the upcoming summer session.
The idea originally came about organically while the Moorpark College’s leadership team was brainstorming ideas to increase enrollment, according to The President of Moorpark College Luis Sanchez.
In order to boost attendance at Moorpark College, the school is offering 1000 scholarships. The program was originally offered for the spring semester, but was extended to the upcoming summer semester.
There are approximately 185 students currently enrolled in the program, for both spring and summer. Funding for the program came from a non-apportionment revenue source, according to Sanchez.
“The process is going well,“ said Sanchez. “Although we didn’t attract as many students as we would of liked.“
In order to be considered, students must:
● Apply for the summer 2016 classes that start on or after May 23
● Such classes must be opened (not waitlisted or closed)
● Fill out form and see counslor for consideration
● Incidental fees may apply
Monique Marquez a 24-year-old nursing student first saw the advertisement on the school’s website homepage and was pleasantly surprised to hear that the school was offering these scholarships.
“Right now I am on a budget,” said Marquez. “So a helping hand is never taken for granted.”
Like most students, Marquez is hoping to finish her classes earlier in hopes of transferring to a four year university.
“The one extra class I take during the summer, is one less class I have to take during the upcoming semester. And one less class to take means I get to transfer sooner rather than later.”
