The Moorpark College Foundation is putting on the first-annual Golf Classic, a tournament that also acts as a fundraiser for the foundation.
The event will feature hole-in-one contests with the opportunity to win a new car provided by Paradise Chevrolet, a new golf cart from Coast Cart, a $5,000 putting contest sponsored by Financial Pointe and a chance to win $1 million.
“We hope to raise at least $20,000 with money going towards scholarships and school programs,” said David Mirisch, executive director of the foundation.
The entry fee is $125 per person and is open to everyone. There is a discount rate of $100 for students. The fee covers green fees, a cart, lunch by Jimmy John’s and an awards dinner, according to the event’s website.
Three college presidents, Luis Sanchez of Moorpark College, Greg Gillespie of Cal Lutheran University and Kevin Walthers of Allan Hancock College are playing, along with District Chancellor Bernard Luskin, Mirisch said.
The tournament will be hosted by Moorpark College alumnus and local rancher Ken Gerry, owner of Gerry Ranch.
There will also be a silent and live auction with prizes including a golf vacation stay at El Dorado Ranch in San Felipe, Baja California and tickets to Dodger baseball games.
Registration opens at 11 a.m., Tee-Time begins at 1 p.m. and the awards dinner is at 5 p.m.
The tournament will be held on July 11, at the Moorpark Country Club.
The discount rate is available as long as students contact Mirisch at 805-553-4760. For more information, Mirisch is also available via email at [email protected].
