Relieve the stress with a free massage
September 23, 2016
Students and staff struggling with stress or tight muscles can now enjoy a relaxing, free massage on the second and fourth Thursday of every month from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Administration Building.
On these days, six chairs will be provided by the Thousand Oaks Massage Center and will be worked by their interns who have volunteered their free time to get some required community service.
Student health coordinator Sharon Manakas describes the deal as a win-win situation.
“They’re looking for sites for their interns to practice because they’re in a program,” said Manakas. “Stress is the number one academic impediment for students.”
Being that stress can become an overwhelming factor for students and professors, as well as other staff members, Moorpark College serves as a convenient location for these interns to practice.
These 10-minute chair massages, focusing primarily on the head, neck, and back, will have students and staff placed face first into the specialized massage chair where they will be able to rest their body in an up-right position, tilted forward with their face comfortably rested in-between two soft cushions.
Anyone who benefits from this arrangement can thank the Thousand Oaks Massage Center for making this happen twice a month, with the exception of Sept. 22.
