The Moorpark College women’s soccer team has hit their stride as they tear through their schedule.
After a slow start that left them at a loss in the rst four games, the Raiders have won eight of their last 10 games and are currently on a six game win- ning streak, holding a record of 8-3-3.
More importantly, the Raiders are undefeated in conference play with seven games left on their schedule.
Head coach Miguel Ruiz saw the first couple games as great practice for the Raiders. The tie versus state championship runner-up Rio Hondo and Fresno College, a perennial powerhouse, gave them an opportunity to measure themselves against the best California has to offer. The tougher competition has been bene cial to the team’s early domination of their conference.
“This is a new season and conference is what we want to do well in,” said Ruiz. “Players are starting to believe a little bit more and we’re excited.”
Although the Raider offense struggled throughout the season, the team seems to be turning a corner, scoring three goals in each of their last three games, leaving them undefeated in conference play.
Ruiz credits his assistant coaches for consistently working with the offense and ultimately knows his squad will not be fazed by the challenge.
“One game at a time,” said Ruiz. “Hopefully we can win conference and keep digging. That’s the ultimate goal.”
