Trick-or-treaters attended Moorpark College’s Boo at the Zoo for a different kind of Halloween experience on Oct. 28 and 29.

Attendees walked around and looked at the decorations, played games, participated in a costume parade and learned about scary animals.

Children at the event could come dressed in their costumes, and even get their faces painted at the Zoo. They were able to trick-or-treat in a naturalistic environment that’s different from other Halloween venues such as the mall or their neighborhood.

Folks came from some great distances to attend the zoo for the first time and were impressed by the care of the animals.

“Kids can wear costumes, and the animals are out of their enclosures. I also like the decorations here,” said Corona resident, Glenna Davis.

Chatsworth resident Jan Lownik said it was her first time at the Teaching Zoo.

“I love it,” she said. “It’s my first time here and it’s better than the LA Zoo. It’s more personal.”

EATM students shared what was special about Boo at the Zoo for them.

“We love to bring the animals out for the kids and for them to see more animals,” said Sarah Schrum, 24.

“It’s very educational and great to educate everyone. And it’s a chance for people to get close-up with the animals,” said Darrin Ortiz, 25.

“I love Boo at the Zoo because we bring people together and we talk about conservation,” said Kathryn Lussier, 22.
