Dancers moved with passion and grace during the opening night of Speaking Movement, the annual Fall Dance Concert.
The dance concert went from Nov. 16. to 19. Over half of seats in the Moorpark Performing Arts Center were filled with students, family members, and supporters all excited to celebrate the art of dance.
Anna Norwalt, 18, came to support her friends Jared and Maddie. She explained that she thought the performances were fun to watch and the final dance of the night, Shakedown Street choreographed by Leslie Bitong, was her favorite.
“I liked it a lot!” Norwalt said. “I will definitely be coming to more. I always love to come to the shows.”
Night at the Disney Museum, choreographed by Jared Cardiel, opened the show with a fun and energetic dance. It embodied the secret of Disney statues as they come to life each night after the park closes.
The show featured 11 performances total, including guest performances from LA Dance Moves, Ventura College, as well as Moorpark College’s Performing Dance Ensemble. Other choreographers in the show were Beth Megill, Wendi Baity, Nancy Ferraro-Paradis, Kenneth Walker, Miel Apostol, Tin Nguyen and Sage Schneiderbauer. Co-directors Robert Salas and Vivian Goldes also choreographed dances.
Moorpark College will be hosting auditions for it’s spring dance concert, Motion Flux, on January 19 from 10 a.m. – noon in PA 107.
