Students explored over 45 different clubs on Raider Walk during Club Rush on Jan. 30 and 31.
“Club Rush is a great opportunity for students to meet new people,” said Kristen Robinson, the Moorpark College student activities specialist. “We had many new clubs this year join and get to experience Club Rush for the first time.”
Club Rush ran from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on both Jan. 30 and 31. The event was sponsored by Associated Students and promoted a variety of clubs, had tables full of candy, and even handed out free giveaways. For students this was an opportunity to learn about the diverse clubs on campus just three weeks into the spring semester. For clubs, the event allowed them to draw in interested students in creative ways.
Among the diverse clubs was Dance Club. According to the club’s president, the purpose of the club is to let students express themselves in any kind of dance as well as making new friends and meeting new people. The main purpose for this club is for students to come together and have a good time to dance.
“Club Rush is a great way to promote and talk to people one on one about the camaraderie of the club,” said Miel Apostol, 21, the club’s president.
Other clubs such as Music Band Extravaganza had many students signing up at their table. The club is very laid back and is about students coming together and sharing their passion for music.
“Our club is to bring people together that like music,” said Nick Burch, the club’s president. “If you like music and want to play music with others that is what our club is all about.”
For clubs such as Art club, anyone can join and learn the basic skills of an artist. The club is open for students to just be creative and express their passion for art. Their club has grown over the past two years and they are excited to grow even more.
“This club is a lot of fun,” said Michael Hellard, 19, Art major. “Being part of any club lets you see what the school has to offer besides academics.”
Donna Rahgoshay, director of student organizations, was in charge of putting together this whole event. To her, Club Rush is a great way for students to get involved on campus and to meet new people.
“Clubs help you get known,” said Rahgoshay. “Clubs will help you meet new people and connect on the same ideas.”
Students had the opportunity to talk with club members and sign up for the ones that interested them the most. Being active and getting involved will help students to look forward to coming on campus, said Emily Kamal, director of public relations.
Whether it’s for making new friends, getting involved in something on campus, or just trying something new, students like Chris Le and Brittany Bailey agree that Club Rush provides opportunities to pursue passions and be successful in college.
“Every club has something different to offer,” said Lee, 19, Chemistry major.
“It seems very fun to be involved in a club,” said Bailey, 18, Environmental Engineering major. “It seems that by getting involved in clubs, you get to meet lots of people too.”
