A wildfire that had started in Simi Valley on Monday morning was quickly contained due to the quick response of firefighters.
Dubbed the Peak Fire, the wildfire broke out in the Corriganville area at around 10 a.m., and stretched across the hillside bordering the 118 Freeway by Rocky Peak. This caused closure of both the westbound and eastbound lanes, but by 12:30 p.m., California Highway Patrol reopened the westbound corridor.
Due to a combined effort of LA and Ventura County fire departments by rapid deployment of strike teams and air attack, the fire was quickly responded to. And by 12:40 p.m, Ventura County Fire Department reported that the Peak fires’ progress had been halted and that crews were on station for mop up and monitoring of hot spots.
By 4:34 p.m., LA Fire reported that the Peak Fire was now 100% contained at 186 acres.
By 5:50 p.m., Moorpark CHP reported that all 4 eastbound lanes of the 118 had been reopened between Kuehner Drive and Rocky Peak Road.
And finally, by 6:14 p.m., LA County reports that all evacuation orders for the Peak Fire, involving the areas of Lake Manor and Box Canyon, have been lifted.
As many Moorpark College staff and students are continuing to be affected by these fires, Moorpark College has closed campus and cancelled classes for tomorrow, Nov. 13.

I have seen that the conejo valley district has closed schools till the 26, does that effect the Vcccd community or does that have nothing to do with us. I wish that this doesnt last long for School is very important to me. I am really thankful and proud of the firefighters that have come far and wide to come help with the fire including chino hills which sent police officers that ive seen to help with traffic control and reinforcement.
