The Moorpark College Raiders held an 11-8 overall record with a 2-2 conference record going into their game against Santa Barbara City College Vaqueros.

The game had the potential to become a pitching duel. Kylee Beccari started the game a little shaky but with the support of her team they kept the Vaqueros scoreless while she was got comfortable.

“I’m usually pretty relaxed on the mound but sometimes the strike zone is different so it takes some getting used to, so that was a little stressful,” Beccari said. “But I was able to figure it out.”

Momentum picked up at the bottom of the fourth inning when the Raiders had one out with a runner on first and knew it was time to break it open.

Tori Villegas was on first with Beccari up to bat. Beccari doubled and Villegas scored, but it did not stop there. With a runner on second, Aubrey Sutherland came up to hit and got on base with an error.

With runners on second and third after Sutherland stole second, Lexi Brown was up to bat with two outs and runners on second and third.

“I knew I needed to get my bat on the ball and get it out of the infield so we could score the two runs,” Brown said.

Brown had a plan and stuck to it. She hit the ball to left field and allowed Beccari and Sutherland to score.

At the bottom of the fifth, the Raiders wanted to get some more cushion on the lead with the score only 4-2. Rachel Hurtado came up with one out and was walked.

With two outs and a runner on base, Brianna Simmons doubled with a line drive to left field and Hurtado scored.

The game ended at a score of 5-2. The Raiders are now 11-8 overall and 3-2 in conference.

“Nothing is guaranteed, we take it one game at a time. I like to believe every team is just as good as we are and we need to play hard every game,” Mitchell said. “We need to be prepared and we still have a lot of work to do.”

The Raiders traveled to Allan Hancock and picked up another win in conference with a score of 4-3. They are now 4-2 in conference and 13-8 overall.
