Friday night, Moorpark College Football competed in a preseason scrimmage against California Lutheran University. Although there was no official score kept, Moorpark performed well, scoring two touchdowns and CLU remaining scoreless. MC Spirit also attended the scrimmage, performing for and pumping up the MC crowd. Ultimately, all three teams left the stadium satisfied with their performance.
Moorpark College Head Football Coach Mike Stuart was happy with the team’s performance, stating that “they came out and executed at a very high level.”
In particular, Stuart praised his team’s defense, noting that the game would have been a shutout if score was kept. When asked what he thought would be a satisfying result for the season, Stuart said he and the team were aiming for a conference championship, but he’d be content with improving from last season’s record of 1-9 with an even record or better.
CLU Head Football Coach Ben McEnroe saw the scrimmage as an overall success, stating that the scrimmage provided an opportunity to identify and see competitive players in live circumstances. McEnroe also had praise for the Moorpark College team.
“One of the more rounded Moorpark teams I’ve seen,” stated McEnroe. “Coach Stuart is doing a great job.”
MC Spirit Coach Kelsey Stuart was similarly happy with her squad’s performance, stating “They looked great.” In terms of overall goals, Coach Kelsey Stuart said her goal for the team was to avoid injuries and push for personal bests.
All three coaches, in fact, emphasized player health as a main priority. During postgame interviews, Coach McEnroe and Coach Mike Stuart both cited the lack of on-field injuries as a marker of success for the day. In discussing what she would see as a satisfying season, Coach Kelsey Stuart listed a goal of zero injuries.
