Final adjustments have been made to meet the safety guidelines to celebrate Halloween in the city of Moorpark. For around eight years, Moorpark has offered their Haunted High Street event.
Unfortunately, the last two years have been challenging for the community. In 2019 Haunted High Street was canceled due to the Thomas fires. This year of 2020 was canceled due to COVID-19.
Moorpark city hall’s Recreation Park staff members met two weeks ago to work on the event’s plans and organize it under a new name and location.
According to Recreation Services Manager Stephanie Anderson, it will be called Spooky Avenue Halloween Drive thru at Arroyo Vista Community Park.
In order to meet local health requirements, the event is moving from High Street to Arroyo Vista Community Park which has the biggest parking lot, located on 4550 Tierra Rejada Rd. The plan was approved by Ventura County.
Victoria Petterson, main Halloween organizer and Recreation Leader from the department of parks and recreation, said they want the community to enjoy Halloween in a safe manner.
“The city wanted to offer something safe and fun to the kids,” stated Petterson. “There will be spooky scenes, people with costumes, participants may take pictures with different characters keeping the safety social distance.”
The event will be on Saturday, Oct 31 and begin at 3:00 p.m. with gates closing at 6:00 p.m. The city will be providing all the candy, gloves and masks to local businesses for safety reasons. Participants must stay inside their vehicle, therefore it will be a smoothly run event.
