In an effort to help students feel back to normal during these difficult times, the Associated Students of Moorpark College hosted their spring semester Club Rush virtually. The virtual event took place on Feb. 5 and Feb. 6 on Zoom conference.

Students were able to listen to the members of 20 different clubs promote themselves and show why students should join them. Each club was given five minutes each to present a PowerPoint that demonstrated what they were all about.

The various clubs included Psychology Club, Pre-Med Club, Armenian Students Association, Future Business Women of America, and Honors Club.

The ASMC had fun trivia games in between each club presenter where students had the opportunity to compete against their fellow peers and win prizes for getting the answers correct such as t-shirts.

If a club sounds intriguing, but the student is not studying that major, they are still more than welcome to join. Clubs also relayed, students can attend meetings without being a member.

Kathryn Givvin, the President of the Psychology Club reminded students “We are directly connected to a major but you do not have to be studying that major to join our club.”

Givvin also added “Most psychology professors offer extra credit for attending our meetings.”

Over 40 students attended Club Rush on Friday night and 25 students on Saturday morning . After each club presented, ASMC opened a breakout rooms where students could jump from club to club and ask additional questions that were not answered during the presentation.

Pre-Med club assists students who are interested in the medical path, what type of material is covered in the Medical College Admission Test as well as what four years of medical school will look like.

The President of Pre-Med club, Madison Wade stated, “even if you can’t attend our club meeting, you should still join. I will be sending out the PowerPoints and information that we discussed to everybody’s emails so you can still gather the important information we went over during our meeting.”

Other clubs in attendance include the Delta Alpha Pi Honor Society club that recognizes high-achieving students with disabilities. Unlike most clubs, Delta Alpha Pi have requirements that must be met prior to applying.

“Requirements to join this club include being a current undergraduate student at Moorpark College, have a documented disability and work with staff at Access, have completed at least 24 units and have a cumulative GPA of 3.1,” according to Silverstein.
