Oxnard church volunteer arrested for several sexual assaults in Ventura County
February 28, 2021
On Feb. 12, 2021, a 14-year-old girl reported to the Oxnard Police Department that she had been lured to a local motel under the pretenses of a cleaning job, where she was then allegedly sexually assaulted by 44-year-old Oxnard resident Isaias “Carlos” Vasquez according to a media release by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
Oxnard detectives quickly located a second victim, a 17-year-old girl who described being lured to a local motel in the same manner in January, where she was also allegedly sexually assaulted by Vasquez.
On Feb. 15, police learned of a third girl, age 14, that had allegedly been sexually assaulted by Vasquez in a car in the unincorporated area of Ojai on Jan. 31.
According to the media release, “The Oxnard Police Department’s Family Protection Unit and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office’s Major Crimes Unit launched a joint investigation, which revealed Vasquez met his three victims while volunteering at local church: Iglesia Pentecostes Un Nuevo Florecer, located in the 3000 block of Nyeland Avenue in the unincorporated area of Oxnard. Detectives also gathered evidence that corroborated the crimes.”
Vasquez was first booked on Feb. 15 for suspicion of rape of an unconscious person but released two days later on $100,000 bail, according to the media release.
He was arrested again on Feb.18 in connection to the Ojai case, and on Feb. 20, Vasquez was contacted at Ventura County Jail, where he was arrested for suspicion of unlawful sexual intercourse with the 17-year-old.
Vasquez has been charged and pleaded not guilty to two felony counts of lewd acts upon a child, two unlawful sexual intercourse felony charges, one felony charge for anal & genital penetration by a foreign object and one felony charge of oral copulation of a person under 18, according to the Superior Court of Ventura County’s online records.
Detective Rosalio Cobian of the major crimes sexual assault unit with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office described his department’s role in the case.
“We actually booked him on the 288(c), (the charge for Lewd and Lascivious Acts),” said Detective Cobain. “This is all we do in my unit. We investigate sexual assault and basically crimes against children.”
Vasquez is currently in custody at Todd Road Jail in Santa Clarita with bail set at $1,000,000, according to the Superior Court of Ventura County’s online records.
Vasquez is set to appear in Ventura County Superior Court for an early disposition conference on March 3.
These investigations are ongoing, and the Oxnard Police Department and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office believe there may be additional victims.
