Professional dancer and Moorpark College student, 19-year-old Emmy Ham of Simi Valley has a great passion for teaching dance.

Ham has been dancing since she was eight years old and wanted to pursue her career in dance by providing private lessons for adults as well as kids ages five and up. She is currently studying dance with the MC Dance Department.

Ham has already been teaching group classes since she was 17 years old at the dance studio California Dance Academy in Chatsworth, along with pop up classes in different locations. She has also taught some classes for the dance club at Moorpark College.

Recently, Ham has been promoting her services on social media, such as Instagram. She explained that she wants to form real relationships and connections with her students.

“I really love teaching and my goal with social media is to promote what I’m doing,” stated Ham. “I want to connect with more people so that’s why I chose the social media route to be able to engage with my followers and potential students.”

Although Ham doesn’t want to limit herself with just one style of dance, she truly resonates with the Contemporary style of dance.

In her high school years, Ham did a lot of student choreography and realized that this could be something she could see herself doing as a job in the future.

“I knew that even if I wasn’t going to make it as a professional in the industry, I really wanted to teach and share my creativity with other people,” Ham explained.

Even though Ham loves to teach dance, she also has big dreams for her end goal.

“Of course I love to teach and choreograph, but I would love to dance in music videos or film. I would also love to be in a contemporary company,” Ham shared. “I’m a really big dreamer so I would love to do everything and anything that comes my way.”

With COVID-19 cases decreasing, dance studios are slowly opening up again, with mask requirements and socially distanced arrangements. Ham is excited to start teaching her group classes and new private lessons.
