November 16, 2021
Update as of Nov. 17 at 10:25 a.m. – The suspect has been located and arrested, according to Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
Ventura County Sheriff’s Office is currently searching for Thousand Oaks transient Robert Burn, who is suspected of lighting two other transients on fire while they were inside a tent.
After deputies responded to a fire near the Oaks Mall at 4:32 p.m. Tuesday, they discovered that a male transient had thrown a flammable liquid on the victims before setting them on fire, according to VCSO Sgt. Timothy Lohman.
Lohman noted that the suspect took off on foot and that VCSO is actively searching for him. There are currently no updates on his whereabouts.
“If you go to our Facebook- our social media page- we have released a photograph of the suspect,” said Lohman. “Because he is a local transient to the Thousand Oaks area, if anybody in that area sees him or knows his whereabouts (they) can contact our sheriff’s dispatch immediately.”
Burn is a middle-aged white man with curly brown hair and green eyes, according to VCSO’s Facebook post.
According to Lohman, the fire was confined to a small area, and the Ventura County Fire Department was able to extinguish the fire. The victims escaped with minor burns and never went to the hospital.
“They all knew each other, and there was some sort of disagreement between the suspect and one of the persons inside the tent,” said Lohman. “The victims know the suspect and saw him at the time that he threw the flammable liquid on them.”
Those with any information on Burn’s whereabouts are encouraged to contact the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office at 805-654-9511.
