The election results for the 2022-2023 Associated Students of Moorpark College Board of Directors were announced on Thursday, April 21.

The election results are as follows:

  • President: Karina Arteaga.
  • Director of Campus Events: Melissa Moore.
  • Director of Constitution and Standing Rules: Synthia Mahmud.
  • Director of Student Advocacy: Nishad Kalluri.
  • Director of Academic Affairs: Daniella Luczywek.
  • Director of Budget and Finance: Abbey Austin-Wood.
  • Director of Public Relations: Angela Batoon.
  • Director of Student Services: Alette Laughton.
  • Director of Student Organizations: Sergio Mendieta.

The positions of vice President and director of sustainability are currently vacant. The current ASMC President Mary Poitier and Vice President Noah David will directly appoint someone to those seats.

Newly elected ASMC President Karina Arteaga currently serves as the 2021-2022 ASMC director of student advocacy. According to Arteaga’s candidate statement, this position better prepared Arteaga for the upcoming presidency.

“This position has allowed me to advocate on behalf of students on both the district and state levels,” Arteaga said. “I have gained an immense amount of experience and knowledge in advocating for students, which is something I find to be the most important part of the President’s position.”

Abbey Austin-Wood, the re-elected director of budget and finance was delighted with the election results. Austin-Wood is pleased with the amount of support received during the election process.

“I feel really happy about the results” Austin-Wood stated. “I didn’t know if my fellow students at Moorpark would like me in my position, let alone support me for it. I’m really happy to know otherwise.”

When asked how Austin-Wood felt about being selected for director of budget and finance, Austin-Wood stated that it felt as if all of her hard work had paid off.

“I feel like I made a good impression on the students I’ve met, known, or helped and they want to see me and my efforts take off,” Austin-Wood said.

Students at Moorpark College commented on the recent student elections. Carlos Toribio, a third-year student at Moorpark College, expressed support for the newly elected ASMC directors.

“I fully support the winners of the student elections,” Toribio said. ” I wish them all the best of luck and hope they continue to make the Moorpark College experience, the best experience”
