On Nov. 15, 2024, Sabrina Carpenter brought her “Short n’ Sweet” tour to Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. The tour supports the singer’s sixth studio album of the same name.
The tour began in Columbus, Ohio, on Sept. 23, 2024. The Crypto.com Arena date was one of the last of the U.S. dates, with it wrapping up at The Kia Forum in Inglewood, CA on Nov. 18, 2024. She will continue the tour, beginning the European leg in March 2025, starting in the U.K. and Ireland.
“I haven’t felt this home in a really long time,” Carpenter stated, sitting on her signature heart-shaped stage, during her show at the arena.
The performance comes on the heels of Carpenter’s first Grammy nominations, including album of the year and song of the year. Despite “Short n’ Sweet” being her sixth album, Carpenter was also nominated for best new artist.
English singer-songwriter Declan McKenna opened the show and sang some of his signature songs like “Champagne” and “Brazil.” He also covered ABBA’s “Slipping Through My Fingers,” a tune that many recognized and sang along to.
Carpenter then opened the show with her single “Taste,” unveiling her signature custom sequin corset with a bath towel that revealed the outfit reading “HI L.A.”
She performed her hit songs “Please Please Please” and “Slim Pickins,” which excited the LA crowd. Carpenter even included songs on the setlist from her previous album “Emails I Can’t Send,” like “Tornado Warnings” and “Feather.” The sold-out venue featured a crowd decked out in pink skirts, lacy bows and platform heels while singing every lyric to each song.
One of Carpenter’s unique assets is her sense of humor, whether it’s opening her show with her running around the stage or pretending that the audio cuts out at the end of the hit single “Nonsense.” Carpenter was as lively and vibrant as any celebrity when playing a sold-out LA show.
Carpenter also did not stray away from getting sentimental when the young singer spoke to her home crowd.
“I’ve lived here for a very long time, and all I know is like…there’s a whole room full of people that dream really [expletive] hard in this room. And I spent so many years dreaming so much and thinking of things and being creative. Thank you for having us, thank you for letting us perform for you.”
Carpenter also plays a different “surprise song” at each city she tours, which is decided by an innocent game of spin-the-bottle. The bottle landed on a melody of “Ain’t No Other Man” and “What a Girl Wants,” which are two of Christina Aguilera’s songs from the late 90s and early 2000s.
As Sabrina started singing, Christina Aguilera joined her on stage in a surprise appearance, wearing sparkly thigh-high boots and belting out the opening notes in a way that was familiar to the crowd.
Blanca Pineda, a student at Moorpark College and concert attendee, expressed enthusiasm regarding Aguilera’s duet with Carpenter.
“I initially thought the original track of the song [“Ain’t No Other Man”] was playing and then I realized Christina was actually there on stage,” Pineda shared. “She is such an icon, I feel so honored that I got to experience this in person and not just through a post on social media,”
Katherine Vilchis, a Moorpark College student and a Sabrina Carpenter fan, shared her favorite parts of the show that she saw via social media.
“One of my favorite moments is when she [Sabrina Carpenter] performs her song ‘Juno,’ Vilchis said. “I love how she starts by ‘arresting’ someone [for being too attractive], whether it’s a fan or a celebrity- it’s such a fun and unique touch.”
Carpenter closed the show and said her goodbye to the audience with her record-breaking hit song “Espresso,” which was just as exhilarating to the audience as a shot of caffeine. She ended the show with a message for the crowd.
“This is your last chance to dance, Los Angeles!”
Earlier this year, Sabrina Carpenter was opening for pop-star sensation, Taylor Swift, on “The Eras Tour.” Now, Carpenter is making her own name for herself in sold-out venues for shows of her own. Carpenter will continue with her tour as she travels to Europe in 2025 to keep things “Short n’ Sweet.”
