Speech competition hits Moorpark College
March 18, 2014
The Moorpark College speech and debate team hosted over 400 students in a nationally attended competition on Feb 21-23.
This is not the first time Moorpark has hosted this competition, the Spring Championships travel to the college every few years and always brings along a tremendous crowd.
Through the years, the championships have given the college a chance to be recognized on a national level.
This competition is not billed as a national tournament, but it is still one of the largest in the country. Aside from the state and national billed tournaments, this is the biggest competition of the spring semester, according to platform and interpretive speaker, Amanda Whitaker.
With so many students on campus, the school’s facilities rose to the upstanding reputation associated with Moorpark in the forensics world.
The forensics team at Moorpark has long been known to be one of the best, but this competition gives schools the opportunity to visit the college’s classrooms.
“It’s like putting a face to a name,” Whitaker said.
Even though the Moorpark team had the toughest competitors in the country, they were confident going in.
“Everyone’s really talented and… hard working,” Whitaker said.
Moorpark brought all of their talent into their own classrooms for a great competition to be followed by nationals in Denver on April 4-12.
