The Moorpark men’s basketball team’s season ended early, but the Raider’s did go out with a bang. After upsetting the number one Pirates in the finale, the Raiders ended the season with an overall record of 10-14.

The mens’ team struggled early in the gate of the season, and didn’t have a strong showing until conference play started. In the beginning of WSC play the Raiders lost one game to start off. This sprung a four game winning streak for the team and looked like they were in prime control in the conference.
“I thought we played great in all of league,” said Head Coach Remy McCarthy. “We had three bad halves in all of league, but other then that we did great.”

Close losses and string of losing games kept the Raiders out of position to contend in a wide open Western State Conference, and make the playoffs. They had a strong showing in their final game of the season upsetting Ventura and costing them their title hopes. They ended WSC play with an overall record of 6-6.
This was the last season for long time Raider men’s McCarthy. McCarthy was a celebrated coach at Moorpark and posted an overall winning record during his tenure. McCarthy led the Raiders to five WSC championships, eight CCCAA playoff appearances, four regional final appearances, and two state final four championship appearances .

“Us giving Remy his last win here at Moorpark was just awesome for us,” said sophomore Shayan Baloor.

The Raiders were lead in scoring of the season by freshman guard, Shaquille Moore. Moore averaged near 18 points per game and was a big source of offense for the Raiders, and averaged seven boards per game.

Freshmen Center Austin Howell was terrific for the Raiders. Howell was strong in the paint being ranked top five in rebounding in the Western State Conference. Howell averaged double digits in both points and rebounds. Putting up 13 points, and 10 rebounds a game.

Boloor for the Raiders averaged 13 points a game for the Raiders. Boloor, Stephen Saska, Adrian Powditch, J.R. Powell, and Richard Thomas are all moving on from Moorpark, and will be transferring to four year universities.

“I am just proud for the boys, and the sophomores, they played great all season,” said McCarthy.

The Raiders overall had a good season with some highs and lows, but ultimately at the end, they had fun with the season they played. They had no regrets, and will look to keep building as new changes come for them next season.
