Moorpark College student athlete Taylor Cartwright will be recognized for her academic achievements Wednesday, April 2.

Cartwright was named to the 2013 CCCAA Scholar Athlete Honor Roll. She was one of nine female student athletes to make the Honor Roll , out of 27,000 athletes, says Moorpark Athletic Director Howard Davis. Moorpark athletes have won the Student Athlete of the Year Award twice, and multiple athletes have made it on to the honor roll.

“We take great pride in the academic achievements of our student athletes” said Howard after hearing of Cartwright’s award.

“I might be a bit of a perfectionist,” said Cartwright, who completed 68 units and earned a flawless 4.0 GPA while at Moorpark.

She is majoring in kinesiology and wants to be a physical therapist for kids with disabilities.

Not only did she excel in the classroom, but also on the field. Cartwright was team captain for the Raiders and was selected to the All-WSC team. WIth her help, the Lady Raiders softball team won the 2013 WSC championship.

Cartwright sets the perfect example for student athletes everywhere with her success in the classroom. Cartwright has always been an excellent student, and credits her parents for her achievements,

“My parents have always instilled in me that you need to do well in school.”

And with that guidance she learned how to balance school and sports.

“Although softball is a high priority in my life, it was never and will never be higher than school.”

Currently Cartwright is attending Chapman University, majoring in kinesiology and playing softball. With school and sports, she has been extremely busy and wont be able to make it to the award ceremony. She hasn’t been able to give the award much thought, but is still honored to be recognized

Most of all she loves that she could give back to the college that helped her get where she is today.

“Moorpark did so much for me,” said Cartwright, who was excited that she could bring recognition to the school. “It makes Moorpark look good.”

Moorpark will be receiving the honor roll award for Cartwright, and will also be receiving the 2012-2013 CCCAA Scholar Team award that the women’s volleyball team earned.
