It’s that time of year where people do things, or want to do things, that they’re going to regret for years to come, Spring Break.
With the bad economy, what are our options as college students for affordable Spring Break trips?
Well, Vegas fanatics will be happy to know that Las Vegas hotel rates have dropped as a result in the decrease in tourism with the intent of bringing business back. Most Strip hotels are advertising rooms around $200 or less.
Stratosphere and Hooters are two hotels I know are pretty cheap without and close enough to where the good stuff is. Vegas may seem more a weekend place but anyone that’s stayed there for a weekend learns quickly that two nights and three days is not enough.
Spending five to seven days in town will have you falling in love with the city and making all the troubles back home go away…err at least temporarily. The nightlife is in a league of its own with bar/clubs such as Ghostbar, Moon/Playboy, Tao, Studio 54 and many more, each with its own theme.
Another great destination closer to home is Pismo Beach. While Vegas would attract more of the 21+ age groups looking for night life, Pismo is great for those outdoors sports aficionados.
You can take your (or your friend’s) all terrain vehicle and hit the dunes, airplane rides, sea kayaking and even relax in some hot springs. This place will surely satisfy your beach activities need, without having to go as far as out of state or south of the border. You can go just for the day should you be low on lodging funds.
One place I’ve heard noise about is said to be the next Havasu. Normally, Lake San Antonio is said to be a family place, but that changes around the first few weeks of April.
For those unfamiliar, Lake San Antonio is located in Monterey County. The lake would appeal to the water sports lovers. Water skiing and speedboats are a must, but try to borrow a friend’s because rentals are usually a couple hundred dollars. That money can be spent more efficiently on lodging or indulgences. Fishing is big there as well. Lodging has a bit more options; instead of being limited to some rooms, “rollers” have the option of a houseboat.
While there many more options, too many to name of course, I encourage all student to take a break from the monotony of studying and get a little R&R. Just make sure when you come back to school the following week to keep blurry stories to yourself.
