At last, the excruciating wait is over and it is finally time for Lady Raider Volleyball. Last season the Raiders finished in a tie for third in the Western State Conference North, at 7-5. The Ladies look to build on a solid season last year, and improve even more this season.

When asked if he was optimistic for the season, Moorpark Athletic Director Howard Davis replied, “Oh yeah, I’m very optimistic. We’re excited for this season.”

The Lady Raider’s are beginning the season with no injuries and good chemistry. The team lost only 3 players from last season’s squad.

“We were good last year,” said second-year Outside hitter, Melissa Brueckner. “We’re ready to improve.”

First-year setter Nicole Chodak also added, “Every day we come ready to improve.”

The Lady Raiders had scrimmages at Cuesta College on Aug. 23, where they played various other teams in the conference. The Raiders won six of their eight matches.

The Lady Raiders also had a double-header at home over the weekend. The team played Cal. Lutheran’s Junior Varsity team where they won 3-0 with ease. The Ladies also had their annual Alumni game. The team looked solid in both games.

As you can see there are plenty of reasons on display for fans to be extremely excited for the upcoming season. The regular season begins Sept.13 facing Irvine Valley, and the Ladies will have their home opener Wednesday Sept. 24 squaring off against Antelope Valley.

The Lady Raiders are very confident in the squad they have this season.

“Come support, we have an entertaining team to watch. We’re going to put on a show this year,” said the lady Raiders.
