The semi-annual Club Rush sponsored by Associated Students will be held on Oct. 7 and Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m on Raider walk.

About 20 clubs are anticipated to set up tables in the quad as an opportunity for students to learn more about them and even join.

The recently appointed Director of Student Organizations, Christine Anderson, is currently planning the event which will see every club on campus interacting with students.

“I want to get the clubs interacting with students as well as each other,” Anderson said. “Overall we are a college and we don’t want to have just one club doing their own thing.”

Anderson is focused on promoting student organizations and promoting membership. Anderson said her primary goal is to ensure that students are informed about the clubs and activities that are on offer at Moorpark College.

On Sept. 7 the Associated Students voted in Christine Anderson as the Director of Student Organizations. She was one of 12 applicants who went through a process of evaluation for the position.

According to Associated Students President, Farshid Orak, each applicant was given a rating on a scale of 1 – 10 by the current board of directors and Anderson received the highest score. The board unanimously voted to have her installed to the position.

“She has the required experience and familiarity with all of the student organizations,” Orak said in an email. “I believe she will make a very good candidate.”

Orak himself was performing the duties during the summer while the position was vacant.

The Director of Student Organizations is responsible for giving funds to clubs for events and fundraising, assisting students who want to start new clubs, overseeing clubs and club rush.

“We get a lot of students coming in and asking about what student organizations are on offer,” Anderson said. “ I really hope we can get more students on campus to join clubs. I would like to see more members, especially in the smaller clubs.”
