Moorpark College’s raider walk hosted Cal State University Northridge (CSUN) and Cal State Channel Islands Day on March 19 where students learned about various degrees programs each school offers.

Moorpark College is the only campus that Cal State Channel Islands brings representatives from specific degree programs such as nursing and humanities to speak with students as an event. Jennifer Mota, an admissions counselor at Cal State Channel Islands, said it is a good opportunity for students to learn about all the programs the university has to offer.

“We just wanted to bring ourselves to the campus,” she said.

Mota attended Channel Islands herself when she was a student. She lived in Oxnard and said working and studying locally was important to her. Channel Islands filled those needs since it is located in Camarillo. She was avid to point out that Channel Islands is a good fit for anyone looking to study locally which could be of interest to Moorpark College students.

She said, the average class size is 24 students which is also an advantage for anyone looking for intimacy. Channel Islands currently has around 6,000 active students.

“You are more than just a number on that campus,” said Mota.

CSUN brought representatives from Science and Mathematics, Engineering, Business and other programs to Moorpark College for the event.

Sandra Hernandez, an admissions and records counselor at CSUN, said there are many reasons why Moorpark College students should consider CSUN for their future university. One reasons is that they are in the top 14 in business in the nation and top 10 for film. They also have a world renowned engineering program.

“Our campus is just growing like crazy,” said Hernandez.

Each college saw around 30 students from the hours of 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Brendon Deffense, a 25-year-old Electrical Engineering major at Moorpark College, said visiting the CSUN booth was very helpful for him.

“They are just there to answer my questions,” said Deffense.
