The chancellor of the Ventura County Community College District has taken an unplanned vacation leaving the district’s vice chancellor to temporarily fill the position, said district officials.

The VCCCD Board of Trustees released a statement following a closed session on April 29, that Chancellor Jamillah Moore is on vacation.

According to Dianne McKay, trustee chairmen, Moore is expected to return in the upcoming week, but until then Vice Chancellor Brian Fahnestock will continue being acting chancellor.

Moore requested and began her unplanned vacation on April 15, said McKay.

According to the Board’s agenda, there was also a closed session evaluation on the chancellor’s performance on April 22 and 29.

Under the Brown Act, the Board can not talk about what was discussed at the close session or who was there, said McKay.

Moore was hired back in 2012, in a 4-1 vote, back when Moorpark, Ventura, and Oxnard College were at risk of losing their accreditation.

According to the VCCCD web site, at the time of her hiring, Moore brought 18 years of educational, policy, instruction and advocacy experience to the district.

McKay said that operations in the district will continue to run smoothly.

“In the interim, we have confidence in the district and the college staffs,” said McKay.
