It’s a new semester here at Moorpark College and students say there’s a lot for them to look forward to.

Brittany Kerner, 17, nursing major, just began her journey and has mixed emotions regarding her expectations for the semester.

“I’m excited! I’m taking Pilates and ceramics, but I’m nervous because I don’t know anybody in my classes,” Kerner said.

According to the district’s Institutional Research office, on the first day of the 2015 spring semester there was a total of 13,386 students attending the college and Moorpark College Registrar Dave Anter said enrollment is down 3 percent this semester.

Ben Altshule, 18, engineering major, looks forward to turning his grades around this semester.

“I hope to get A’s and Bs in all of my exams this semester,” Altshule said. “I already had one semester so far and it didn’t work out, so I’m not really sure.”

Catherine Bernardo, a 21-year-old nursing major, said that her teachers seem sweet so far.

“I feel they make me feel comfortable in class,” said Bernardo. “I am taking intro to chemistry II and statistics, so I feel good that they are there to help me in those harder classes.”

Spring is also the last semester for some students, many of whom look forward to graduating.

“It’s my last semester, so I am excited to graduate and volunteer with [an] animal rights activist,” said Steven Litrov, 23-year-old sociology major, who is preparing to leave Moorpark College.
