Two instructors are seeking approval for their travel expenses to go Japan in the Ventura County Community College District Board of Trustees meeting on Feb. 16.

Criminal justice instructors Leeann Mulville and Chad Basile are going to Noda City, Japan to attend a martial arts seminar given by Bujinkan System Grandmaster Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi in March, according to the board’s agenda item 13.03.

Basile said that the seminar will give him and Mulville a chance to enhance their self-defense skills.

“Attending this course will update and expand our knowledge and skills related to self protection of first responder professionals,” said Basile. “It will enhance the presentation of Moorpark College course: CJ M09 Bujinkan – Practical Self Defense.”

Basile states that the approval of the funds will help offset the personal expenses of the trip.

“The funds will reduce the significant personal expenses related to the international travel and lodging required to attend the seminar,” said Basile.

The traveling cost is estimated to be $3,075 and the Campus Professional Development Travel funds will provide $600, which comes from the general fund, according to the VCCCD Board of Trustees agenda. The employees will pay the remainder of the balance.

The meeting will be held in the District Administrative Center at 255 West Stanley Ave., Ventura at 6 p.m.
