The team competed in the Ventura Relays at Ventura College against a number of different schools, on Friday Feb. 19.
The Raiders performed better than their first meet at Bakersfield, and Hurdles and Sprints Coach Jhad Jones said the strength of the team was in the individual talents, rather than as a whole, when looking to win a conference title.
“We don’t quite have the adequate depth to compete for a team title in the conference,” said Jones. “However, we do have stand-out athletes on both sides who can make a push for conference titles and a berth into the state championships.”
The athletes whom Jones mentioned that could compete for a title on the women’s side include Emma Fleming and Stephanie Williamson.
“[They] are showing the potential to be big time point scorers and make a push at conference titles in their respective events,” said Jones.
On the men’s side, Jones stated that Josh McClure and Elisha Edwards could make a run towards the conference title in the first year back for men’s track as a team.
“[They] have shown great ability and can lead the conference in their respective events of the shot put and hurdles,” said Jones. “Making state for them is definitely possible, and seeing them reach their potential will be great in the first season back for the men’s program.”
The track team can be seen back in Ventura, this Friday Feb. 26 starting at 11 a.m.
