Moorpark College will implement two new nursing courses designed for intermediate and advanced nursing students.
The Nursing Science Clinical Review – NS MO5L and the Nursing Skills Summer Lab – NS M18 are the new courses. NS MO5L is going to be offered in the fall and spring and NS M18 will only be offered in summer.
“The reason why we offer the summer lab course now is because we have grant funds,” said Carol Higashida, health sciences coordinator. “It’s really to offer students more reinforcement of the content that they had received during the regular school year.”
These courses are for nursing students who may need to brush up on nursing skills, but are not part of the required core for nursing majors.
Christina Lee, nursing instructor, said she is the planned instructor who will teach the two courses. Lee also said these courses are optional for students to take.
“It is not intended to students transferring into the nursing program,” said Lee. “It is for prior Moorpark College nursing students returning to the program to refine their clinical performance.”
The summer lab is worth 1 unit and the clinical review course is 4.5 units. Both courses apply to the associates degree for transferring nursing students, but only the summer lab counts for California State University transfer credit.
