Moorpark College’s Symphony Orchestra and Choir are joining forces for a two-night harmonic event where they will be performing their favorite American musical selections.
The orchestra will perform pieces including “An American in Paris” by George Gershwin as well as selections by Aaron Copland such as “Rodeo Suite” and “Lincoln Portrait,” on May 6 and 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center main stage.
According to Chase Rizkalla, 19-year-old music major and choir member, the purpose of “Americana!” is to demonstrate the different styles and genius of some of the most famous American composers of modern times.
According to Rizkalla, rehearsals can often be stressful and strung-together by every little detail in order for them to perform to their fullest extent.
“The rehearsals are rigorous,” said Rizkalla. “Each piece is torn apart and really focused on in great detail.”
This event will contain around 10 songs total and six different works.
Rizkalla said his expectations for the event are at an all-time high.
“The music being performed in this concert is phenomenal,” said Rizkalla. “Everyone is doing their best to do each composer and their songs justice.”
This event is beneficial to students because it is a chance to hear some of the best music of our time that came from other Americans just like these performers, said Rizkalla.
These beautiful masterpieces are collaborating to present a wonderful night full of music. So open your ears to enjoy the most spectacular concert of all times.
“I think this is a great chance to see phenomenal music performed by extremely talented and passionate people,” said Rizkalla.
Tickets are $8 to $12, according to the performing arts website.
