The Theater Arts Department kicked off its first week of “Student One Acts” on Wednesday with two shows; one at 1:30 p.m. and a later performance at 7:30 p.m.

Among one of the many student writers and directors there was Stefan James, 21-year-old theater arts major. James wrote and directed “Soul Station:” the story of two people who fell in love before they were born and their fight to stay together. James believes the one acts show students what it is like to be a part of a real production.

“While the teachers do help a lot, it all comes down to the students to put the work in the show to make it special,” said James.

Harry Cho, 18-year-old film and television major, was a part of “Soul Station” as well as “Love Wars;” another one act featured. Cho felt the rehearsals went extremely well and the hard work they have put in was shown on opening night.

“It’s great working with a student director because then you don’t feel too intimidated,” said Cho. “The best part of the one acts is performing what you’ve been rehearsing for the past couple of months.”

The audience was filled with friends and family supporting the actors, writers, and directors who all reacted with enjoyment once the performance concluded. Isabella Antinrno, 20-year-old film major, was an audience member there to support friend Serena Aburahma who was in “Love Wars.”

“It’s really nice to see something that the student body performs and having everyone be very active in this and seeing everything come together to put on a great show,” said Antinrno.

Antinrno gives props to all the writers and directors and believes that they should be given a lot of credit because they carried everything out so well.

The acts performed on opening night included:

  • “Soul Station;” written and directed by Stefan James
  • “Peephole;” written by Hovig Chobanian and directed by Nick Moreno
  • “666Seven;” written and directed by Catie Sayeg
  • “Connie & Blythe;” written by Tegan Morley and co-directed by Amanda Horn and Angela Morgan
  • “Love Wars;” written by Rosy Locater and directed by Nicole St. Pierre

The “Student One Acts” will continue May 4 through 7 at 7:30 p.m. along with a matinee show on May 4 at 1:30. Tickets, which are $10, are on sale online at www.moorparkcollege.edu/pac
