The 2016 NAMIWalk Ventura County took place Saturday, April 30 at the Ventura Beach Promenade near the pier. The scenic location was filled with walkers who were enthusiastic to raise money, bring awareness and break the stigma that we’ve been taught comes with mental illness.

Moorpark College’s Team MC boasted approximately 25 walkers this year who were willing to make a difference on campus as well as in the community.

Roberta Griego, NAMIWalks Ventura manager of three years, said she was pleased by the success of the fundraiser.

“[We are] trying to get the message out… to see that it grows and grows every year, and that people are enthusiastic to come out and walk and raise money to help a great cause,” she said.

NAMIWalks was very close to its goal of $175,000 this year making just over $162,000 and looks forward to another successful walk next year.
