Individual voices come together “To be Sung Under the Water” during this semester’s choir concert.
The Moorpark College Vocal Ensemble and Concert Choir join forces to perform their rendition of water themed music in “To Be Sung On the Water” on Oct. 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center.
The choir will perform various pieces from classic movie hits like “Down in the River to Pray” from “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” to choral masterpieces like Samuel Barber’s “To Be Sung On the Water.”
In preparation for the performance, a real love and appreciation for music comes into play and this semester’s vocalists embody this admiration thoroughly.
Ashley Dickerson, 21-year-old cultural anthropology major, always knew music was going to be a part of her life.
“I have been involved with music programs my entire life,” said Dickerson. “There is a certain feeling I get when a song comes together, especially during a performance. Living up to the directors expectations can be stressful, but it isn’t necessarily a bad thing. They challenge you to improve.”
The satisfaction one gets after the show is done is what encourages you to give it your all, according to Dickerson.
“After all the work we put into making a song and the overall performance perfect,” said Dickerson. “It’s an adrenaline rush to know we accomplished our end goal, to just have a great show.”
