On April 21, Moorpark College will hold the fourth annual Maker Faire on the Quad, advertising the variety of creative activities available to students on campus.

Art teacher and Maker Faire Coordinator, Clare Sadnik briefly summarized what the Moorpark College Maker Faire is all about.

“We come together as a campus and as a community, and celebrate that we are makers, that we do ‘making’ across many different disciplines,” Sadnik said.

One of the resources for makers on campus is called MakerSpace, a place where students can utilize machines such as a 3D printer, computers with sophisticated programs and even wood working tools.

Sadnik started the Moorpark College Maker Faire four years ago, and has since continued every spring.

Different booths will be set up during the Maker Faire to showcase different creative outlets on campus such as game design, print making and more. Booths will focus on providing information to interested students while others will host activities for students to participate in. The ceramics booth, will have pottery wheels set out for students to throw clay. Free ice cream will also be available throughout the event.

In terms of the turnout, Sadnik expects several hundred students to show up over the course of Maker Faire.

Sadnik mapped out her goals for future Maker Faire events.

“Part of Maker Faire is getting the word out about MakerSpace and that we are all makers in one form or the other,” Sadnik emphasized.

Maker Faire will be held April 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students interested in learning more or registering for the Maker Faire can contact Clare Sadnik, but should be aware that the registration deadline is March 6.
