With Halloween right around the corner, the Associated Students of Moorpark College anticipates to lift your spirits with the Moorpark College Halloween Festival.

On Oct. 31 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the Associated Students of Moorpark College will host a Halloween festival in Raider’s Walk.

At the festival, ASMC will offer many Halloween-themed events for Moorpark College students to participate in, including arts and crafts, costume contests and trick-or-treating around the campus student center.

A local food truck from Ventura County, Desserts to Die For, will cater to the sugar cravings demands from students at the event. There will be 175 desserts available for purchase to students from the food truck.

There will also be a variety of prizes offered throughout the event, including Apple Air Pods, $150 of Moorpark College Bookstore credit, full sized candy bars and three desserts from the on-site food truck vendor.

ASMC Vice President Sage Tollefson expressed her excitement for the upcoming event and shared how she wanted to create an opportunity to bring Moorpark College students together.

“We know students love Halloween and since it falls on a Monday, which is really cool that it’s on a school day, we wanted to do something to celebrate that,” Tollefson said. “Like I said, bring people together because of the pandemic we haven’t been back on campus.”

Tolleson expressed that because of the pandemic, it has been difficult for students to adjust back to the in-person campus environment, which is why she hopes that this upcoming ASMC event will give students the opportunity to socialize and on-campus activities.

“It’s hard for kids to get back into the groove of campus, so it’s kind of like a good way to be social, maybe make some friends, we have a lot of games and activities that we hope will help bring people together,” Tollefson said.

The Moorpark College Halloween Festival will be the first ASMC Halloween related event in-person since the COVID-19 pandemic put a halt to community activities in early 2020.

Tollefson and ASMC Director of Campus Events Melissa Moore agreed that for this year especially, bringing in community and togetherness to the Moorpark College campus is one of student government’s personal goals.

“I feel like it’s been really lacking since the pandemic, so we’re trying to revitalize the spirit on campus,” Moore said.
