The Associated Students of Moorpark College Board of Directors is responsible for representing the student body of Moorpark College and promoting student life and engagement

“Throughout the year, ASMC’s Board of Directors serves as the students’ voices by expressing student concerns at the campus, local, state, and national levels,” states Moorpark College.

During the spring semester of each year, an election is held to determine which dedicated students will fill open positions in the student government for the following year.

This year, four students are running for the position of VCCCD Student Trustee, including Sierra Whalen, Mark Huff, Valerie Hernandez and Chris Vance.

During the ASMC Candidate Forum, held in the quad on campus on Wednesday, March 27, several candidates running for varying student government positions gave speeches and answered questions regarding their goals. Among them was Vance, who shared his objective in running for VCCCD Student Trustee.

“I’ve always had a desire to do my part in representing the interests of fellow constituents,” Vance shared.

Four candidates are in the running for the position of ASMC President. These candidates include Kaaren Nakhaei, Shredder Muzoglu, Jackson Heybl and Giovanni Aquila. Two candidates are running for Vice President, Penggao Tang and Marianne Hope Vinas.

Tang attended the Candidate Forum and was eager to share his intentions in running for Vice President.

“I want to make palpable effects on the community by taking all of the perspectives I can in order to make the best judgment for the students,” Tang explained.

Bouchra Alioua and Harmeet Singh are running for Director of Budget and Finance, Anjali Khashaki for Director of Campus Events, Arabella Abutin for Director of Public Relations, Sabrine Heilmann for Director of Student Advocacy, Nora Barakat for Director of Student Organizations and Maya Swarts and Alec Khoboyan are running for Director of Sustainability.

Ballots must be submitted by 8:00 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, March 27, 2024. Each Moorpark College student should have received an email titled “Vote now: Ventura County Community College District – Student Elections 2024-2025” with instructions and a link to submit their individual ballot.
