Dr. Roberto Vargas, acclaimed author, educator and consultant, will speak at Oxnard College as part of the Speaker Series. Vargas will speak about his book, “Family Activism” and how to help raise children to be the change we desire to see in the world.
The event will be held in the Clock Tower Auditorium from 12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. on Nov 19. Vargas is a southern California native, toting both his Masters in Social Work and doctorate in Public Health from University of California, Berkley. In the book, Vargas gives personal experiences and stories to illustrate exactly how these tools can be applied to individual families, and what the main goal of his work. “I want to equip all people with tools to better their families, communities and our world,” said Vargas.
To help this goal become reality, Vargas also performs what he called Provida teachings. These Provida workshops are used to help people tap into their “passion for life, love and justice.” Due to the popularity of “Family Activism,” the ideals spoken about in this book are now being worked into the Provida workshops. As is the case with all of the Speakers Series events, non-students are welcome to come to the event.
Due to the focus on family during this particular event, families are extended a special welcome. Contact Shelley Savren at (805) 986-5800 ext. 1951 with any questions. For further information on Vargas visit his website, robertovargas.com.
