There are many problems students find on their campus, but few do anything to help solve them.
As a final presentation, Amy Edwards, communication studies professor at Oxnard College, had her students give a presentation and create a solution about problems that interested them on campus.
“I think it’s fantastic how they are utilizing the skills they learned throughout the semester,” said Edwards.
Student Movement was one of the groups that presented during class. Their main focus was how Oxnard College has a lack of interaction between faculty, students and Associated Student Government. Eunice Guillen, a member of the Student Movement, hears the students’ concerns.
“Many students cannot put a face to administration,” said Guillen.
One of the concerns brought up by the student movement was that ASG, throughout the years, has not been actively involved with bringing students wants and needs into consideration.
Tony Arrepondo, also a group member, explained how a lot of the students on campus knew that there were elections going on, but refused to vote because of the ASG’ s history with student involvement.
As a part of the solution, Arrepondo mentioned that the dean of student services suggested starting a club on campus with the goal of working with ASG in getting students involved.
“It just takes one person. Maybe that’s us, Student Movement,” said Arrpondo. “If we do nothing, nothing gets solved.”
ASG was invited to attend the event to hear out some of the solutions. Although they did not attend, Student Movement is still determined to reach out.
