During the summer of 2024, the Ventura County Community College District will host a study abroad trip for students to explore the country of Argentina.

Argentina is a large country in the southern half of South America where immeasurable beauty and excitement await. Students will not only experience the incredible features of Argentina such as Buenos Aires and Iguazú Falls, but they will also visit Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.

Moorpark College professor Renee Butler is an experienced traveler and mathematics instructor who will advise the upcoming trip.

“I took 10 Moorpark College students to Italy and Greece in 2019,” Butler explained while sharing photos of herself and her students in Europe. “This past summer I went to Zambia, Africa on a missions trip as well.”

Butler visited Tahiti as a student on a study abroad trip with Valley College in 2004. She has extensive experience traveling internationally and is excited to advise the trip to Argentina.

The trip will be organized by EF Education First, an international company that provides education in many fields including culture, language and academics. EF has organized the trip to Argentina and will pair students with a bilingual tour director who will ensure the group’s safety and orchestrate the adventure.

The study abroad trip will be paired with the Math M12 class at Moorpark College. Students will enroll in the math course and spend one week on-ground at the college before departing to South America for 11 days.

Math M12 introduces students to applicable mathematical concepts such as managing finances and quantitative information in the real world. The credits are transferable to UCs and CSUs, and the course enhances one’s transcript and résumé.

Participating in a study abroad program can have a positive impact on one’s GPA and boost their résumé, job security and salary later on. It also provides the development of critical skills, international exposure and invaluable life experiences.

Students will be responsible for providing their own passport in order to participate in the trip, as well as purchasing their own lunches and souvenirs while abroad. However, the price of the ticket for the trip includes breakfast and dinner, round-trip airfare, hotel rooms and transportation.

A ticket can be purchased for $5489, and EF also offers diversity, financial and merit-based scholarships to help students achieve their goals and travel abroad. Students can also set up a payment plan in order to pay for the ticket, and there is a worry-free period of 30 days after enrolling for the trip during which students can receive a full refund.

Interested students can enroll for the trip at efstudyabroad.com or contact Butler with any questions at [email protected]. To find more information about EF, students may visit their website and help center, or contact their traveler support team at [email protected] or (877) 485-4184.
