Students, faculty and staff are expected to get down and dirty in a mission to beautify their school at Oxnard College’s tenth annual Campus Clean Up Day, on Oct. 22.
While coordinator Michael Abram’s students may be getting extra credit for attending the event, everyone is encouraged to attend and help out during Campus Clean Up Day, including Board of Trustees members.
“(This event) will bring a board member, faculty, staff and students all together and work to a common good cause,” said Abram.
Around 50-80 people are expected take part in the clean up this year with the possible help from a board member. Last year, board member Larry Miller got his hands dirty and helped plant flowers and weeding weeds.
This year Abram is hoping for him to come again with the other 50 to 80 expected volunteers.
Everyone who participates will be expected to arrive at 6:30 a.m. where they will be given complimentary doughnuts and coffee as well as a 5-dollar coupon to eat at the condor café for Connie Owens from the Oxnard College Foundation.
From there, groups of people will be distributed throughout the campus and to work on different projects including weeding & planting flowers near the North and South hall classrooms and other areas, cleaning windows, dusting, picking up trash throughout the campus, power washing and scraping gum off the concrete.
Everyone who is planning on attending must come prepared. Organizers are stressing that students bring gloves, hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, hand tools, paper towels and any other household cleaning items to use. They are also asking anyone who would like, to donate bedding plants and landscape bark.
Campus clean up is expected to be another success this year. Everyone is encouraged to lend a hand in the event to help in the beautifying of the school.
“It’s important to beautify your school,” Abram said. “Part of it is to clean your own backyard and represent your school.”
