The Oxnard College Marine Center & Aquarium is gearing up for the Halloween Under the Sea celebration. Students and the community are invited to join the fun, along with their children, to enjoy an oceanic twist on Halloween.
The marine center is hosting its fourth annual celebration this year at the Channel Islands Harbor at Fisherman’s Wharf.
The organizers at the Marine Center are excited about this year’s celebration.
“I’m looking forward to it as a way to show people the Marine Center, ” said Tom O’Neil, director of the Marine Center and Aquarium.
The idea behind the event was brought up by several of the people working at the Marine Center with Jan Straka and Dee Anderson taking the leadership role.
“We want it to be a safe event for children in the community,” O’Neil said.
Keeping with the Halloween Under the Sea theme, children will get to participate in a wide range of Halloween activities. From beginning to end, activities will include a children’s costume parade at 3 p.m., pumpkin carving, face painting, games, prizes and trick or treat candy for the kids.
With the marine center as its backdrop, the organizers are looking forward to showing everyone what opportunities they have at the marine center. Kids and parents will get to enjoy the displays of fish and activities that are available to the public, not just on this Halloween event, but also for everyday.
O’Neil is excited for this years event and hopes that everyone who comes will learn from the marine center and want to come back to visit again. The community is encouraged to take part in this alternative and safe event.
“Anytime you bring a large amount of people to the marine center, its exciting,” O’Neil said.
Halloween Under the Sea will be held on Oct. 25, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Fisherman’s Warf at Channel Islands Harbor. For more information, contact Dee Anderson at (805) 985-9801.
