Moorpark College’s Forensics team will take the stage in the Moorpark College Performing Arts Center to speak and debate in the 2019 Fall Forensics Showcase. Designed as an opportunity for Moorpark College Forensics team members to show off their skills, the Fall Forensics Showcase will feature a total of three shows spread over the course of two days, Dec. 9-10. The showcase will also serve as a fundraiser for Moorpark College Forensics, with proceeds from ticket sales going to the team.

Moorpark College Forensics Program Director Rolland Petrello broke down the purpose of the event, stating “Every semester we showcase a number of events with people on the team, to showcase what they do.” When asked what he was most excited for audiences to see, Petrello simply stated “What it is we do.”

Throughout the competitive season, Moorpark College Forensics participates in tournaments against other schools throughout the region and nation. These tournaments feature a number of events including the Parliamentary Debate, Extemporaneous speaking, Informative Speaking and Poetry.

According to Petrello, Moorpark College Forensics usually participates in about 11 tournaments over the course of the competitive season, which runs from September to April.

Moorpark College Forensics team members put a great deal of time and effort into preparing for these tournaments. By the time the national Phi Rho Pi Tournament rolls around in the spring, Petrello estimates that most students have spent 40 to 60 hours preparing for a single event, with most students competing in four separate events.

For those looking to witness the results of Moorpark College Forensics’ efforts, there will be two exhibitions on Dec. 9, at 1:30 p.m. and another at 7:30 p.m., as well as one on Dec. 10 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased online or in person at the Moorpark College Performing Arts Center. For additional information, contact the Moorpark College Performing Arts Center at (805) 378-1485 or by email.
